چکیده

This paper describes the evolution of recursive functions within an Object-Oriented Genetic Programming (OOGP) system. We evolved general solutions to factorial, Fibonacci, exponentiation, even-nParity, and nth-3. We report the computational effort required to evolve these methods and provide a comparison between crossover and mutation variation operators, and also undirected random search. We found that the evolutionary algorithms performed much better than undirected random search, and that mutation outperformed crossover on most problems.

Towards Strong Normalization for Dependent Object Types (DOT)

The Dependent Object Types (DOT) family of calculi has been proposed as a new theoretic foundation for Scala and similar languages, unifying functional programming, object oriented programming and ML-style module systems. Following the recent type soundness proof for DOT, the present paper aims to establish stronger metatheoretic properties. The main result is a fully mechanized proof of strong...

What Functional Programmers can Learn from the Visitor Pattern

This paper explores the practical potential for enhancing code reuse in functional languages by leveraging techniques and experiences from object-oriented programming. Since data types in typed functional languages do not support adding new variants, programming techniques derived from the object-oriented Visitor pattern can be readily applied to recursive functions on trees in functional langu...

Learning Recursive Functions from Noisy Examples using Generic Genetic Programming

One of the most important and challenging areas of research in evolutionary algorithms is the investigation of ways to successfully apply evolutionary algorithms to larger and more complicated problems. In this paper, we apply GGP (Generic Genetic Programming) to evolve general recursive functions for the even-n-parity problem from noisy training examples. GGP is very flexible and programs in v...

Declarative Semantics in Object-Oriented Software Development - A Taxonomy and Survey

One of the modern paradigms to develop an application is object oriented analysis and design. In this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles in applications. In an application, we must distinguish between procedural semantics and declarative semantics for their implementation in a specific programming language. For the procedural semantics, we can write a ...

Recursive Object Types in a Logic Ofobject - Oriented Programsk

This paper formalizes a small object-oriented programming notation. The notation features imperative commands where objects can be shared (aliased), and is rich enough to allow subtypes and recursive object types. The syntax, type checking rules, axiomatic semantics, and operational semantics of the notation are given. A soundness theorem showing the consistency between the axiomatic and operat...
